Sticking to Your Diet on Vacation

Sticking to Your Diet on Vacation
Summertime is almost here, and with that comes vacations. Vacations are a time to splurge, to do things and (unfortunately) to eat things that you don’t normally, all in the name of the “vacation.” While trying new foods is a wonderful experience, overdoing it on the sweeter side can wreak havoc on your body. If you are committed to maintaining your trim physique, these tips can help you say no to overindulgence while vacationing.

There may be the enticement of new and exotic foods to try, and while this does not pose a problem, it will if you don’t maintain consistent portion sizes. The potential for overindulging exists, as many eateries will serve you large portions, and as the old adage says, “eat everything on your plate”. Don’t be afraid to ask for a to-go box.

Also, when you are sightseeing in a new place, opt for walking instead of taking a cab to your destination if the distance is manageable. This is not only a great way to stay in shape while vacationing, but it also offers many more opportunities for taking pictures and videos of your. Be sure to pack enough water for the day, and bring smart snacks like granola bars to avoid stopping to grab a snack at the bakery.

When it comes time for dinner, choose wisely. Major cities have many healthy dining options for those attempting to stick to a chosen diet. Many eateries will have a healthy choices menu, although you may have to ask your waitress to see it. Choose a local diner over a fast food establishment, or a smoothie bar rather than the ice cream shop when it comes time for the unavoidable dessert portion of the evening.

Finally, a little bit of planning before you embark on your travels can be a wise idea. You don’t want to suffer from deprivation, however, choosing from healthier options can make your vacation dining experience guilt-free. Hit the gym because you want to, not because you want to erase the damage done by your vacation.
